Horry-Georgetown Technical College (HGTC) is a two -year community/technical college that offers more than 75 associate degree, diploma, and certificate programs for students who are either seeking quick entry into the workforce or desiring to transfer to a senior institution to pursue a bachelor’s degree. HGTC offers three convenient campus locations in South Carolina, including Myrtle Beach, Conway and Georgetown.
Horry-Georgetown Technical College seeks a full-time Philosophy/Religion instructor. This position will report to the Chair of the Humanities, Fine Arts, Social Sciences, and Human Services Department in the School of Arts and Sciences.
The instructor hired will be responsible, in part, for the following duties.
- Teaching Philosophy 101 (Intro to Philosophy), Philosophy 110 (Ethics), and if qualified, REL 103 (Comparative Religion)
- Preparing detailed and engaging lessons for both face-to-face and online instruction
- Developing course syllabi, goals, and objectives
- Evaluating students’ progress in attaining goals and objectives
- Assessing students’ learning and adjusting instruction accordingly
- Developing and implementing plans to improve student success
- Maintaining knowledge of current trends and developments in the field by attending staff development training, workshops, seminars and conferences
- Meeting with students, staff members, and other educators to discuss students’ instructional programs and other issues impacting the progress of students
- Providing academic advisement to students
- Teaching at various campus locations, as needed
- Serving on committees, which help the college, faculty, staff, and students
The preferred candidate will have a Master's degree or higher in Philosophy with at least 18 hours in Religion or a Master's degree or higher in Religion with at least 18 hours in Philosophy. At a minimum, this candidate must have a Master's degree or higher in Philosophy. A Religion degree alone is not acceptable.
