Horry-Georgetown Technical College (HGTC) is a two -year community/technical college that offers more than 75 associate degree, diploma, and certificate programs for students who are either seeking quick entry into the workforce or desiring to transfer to a senior institution to pursue a bachelor’s degree. HGTC offers three convenient campus locations in South Carolina, including Myrtle Beach, Conway and Georgetown.

Horry- Georgetown Technical College seeks a full-time Speech Instructor beginning August 2025. The successful candidate will be required to travel and teach Public Speaking classes at any Horry-Georgetown Technical College campus location as well as area high schools for dual enrollment. This individual will report to the English and Communications Department Head in the School of Arts and Sciences Division, and will be responsible for the following duties (this list is not intended to be exhaustive):

• Preparing lesson plans for classroom instruction
• Developing program syllabi, goals and objectives
• Evaluating students' progress in attaining goals and objectives
• Assessing Public Speaking students' learning objectives
• Developing and implementing plans to improve student success rate of end-of-course exit examinations
• Maintaining program certification requirements, as appropriate
• Preparing and maintaining all required documentation and administrative reports
• Maintaining knowledge of current trends and developments in the field by attending staff development training, workshops, seminars and conferences
• Meeting with students, staff members, and other educators to discuss students' instructional programs and other issues impacting the progress of students
• Providing academic advisement to students
• Participating in academic term registrations

Duties include a flexible schedule of lecture, student advisement and registration. Must be willing to work split teaching shifts that might require split teaching days between multiple campus locations and area high schools. Must fully embrace the responsibility for maintaining an acceptable number of students within related programs.

• Masters in Communications or Speech or Masters with 18 grad hours in Communications.
• Prior documented experience in teaching Public Speaking courses at an accredited college or university.
• Excellent human-relations, interpersonal skills, and strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Proficient in the use of MS Office, particularly Word, Excel, and Outlook.

• Prefer two (2) years of full-time, teaching experience.
• Proficient in the use of Banner and Desire to Learn (D2L) as well as third party software platforms.
• Experience teaching in all modalities to include the online format.
