Job Description:

Horry-Georgetown Technical College (HGTC) is a two -year community/technical college that offers more than 75 associate degree, diploma, and certificate programs for students who are either seeking quick entry into the workforce or desiring to transfer to a senior institution to pursue a bachelor’s degree. HGTC offers three convenient campus locations in South Carolina, including Myrtle Beach, Conway and Georgetown.

The Forestry Management Technologies Department of Horry Georgetown Technical College is seeking applications for an Associate Professor, Forestry/Wildlife.  Applicants should be passionate about natural resources management, with work experience in natural resources (wildlife, wetlands, soils) and forestry.  The successful candidate will have expertise in both traditional and innovative natural resource measurement techniques and forest inventory strategies. 

The successful candidate should demonstrate strong ability and experience in both applied and theoretical aspects of forest ecology. Expected teaching responsibilities include courses in forest ecology that serve the department’s Associate of Applied Science Forestry program and the department’s, Associate in Applied Science in Wildlife Management. Additional teaching contributions may include courses aligned with the successful candidate’s area of expertise such as dendrology, forest fire, tree physiology, or other introductory forestry and natural resources courses. The position is 100% teaching, and subject to annual evaluation and modification. The successful candidate will be expected to enhance the department’s academic community and contribution to the institution’s technical college mission including building a nationally recognized 2-year program, as demonstrated by success in acquiring extramural funding, student recruitment and mentorship. The department promotes an environment with subject matter experts in fostering collaboration with departmental faculty in teaching. This position provides a unique opportunity to collaboratively strengthen the department’s long-term effort to enhance the, economic, and social benefits of forests and related natural resources.

Advertised Salary:

Salary is commensurate with education and work experience. Benefits include paid state holidays, annual and sick leave.

Minimum Requirements:

Master’s degree in Forestry; or a Bachelor’s degree in Forestry plus three (3) years related experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

Subject Matter Expert in the field for Forestry.
