Horry-Georgetown Technical College (HGTC) is a two-year community/technical college that offers more than 75 associate degree, diploma, and certificate programs for students who are either seeking quick entry into the workforce or desiring to transfer to a senior institution to pursue a bachelor’s degree. HGTC offers three convenient campus locations in South Carolina, including Myrtle Beach, Conway, and Georgetown.
Horry-Georgetown Technical College is seeking applicants for an Associate Professor, Computer Technology. The chosen candidate will be required to teach computer technology classes on our Conway campus as well in an online format. The chosen candidate will report to the Computer Technology Academic Chair in the School of Business Administration, Computer Technology, English, Mathematics, and Personal Services. The individual will be responsible for the following (which is not all inclusive):
Instructional and Curriculum Responsibilities
- Design and deliver high-quality instruction in Computer Technology, including, but not limited to:
- Programming languages such as Python and SQL
- Linux environments and shell scripting
- Cloud computing platforms (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud)
- Data structures, algorithms, and computational theory
- Develop and maintain course materials, including:
- Instructional Packages, Course Syllabi, Learning Objectives, and Assessment Tools
- Engaging lectures and interactive lab exercises aligned with course outcomes
- Integrate emerging technologies into curriculum, particularly in cybersecurity and cloud-native development
- Utilize Learning Management Systems to deliver and manage instructional content and assessments
Student Engagement and Support
- Maintain regular office hours for academic advising, tutoring, and student support
- Evaluate and assess student performance through assignments, projects, and exams
Professional Expectations
- Stay current with technological advancements in computing and related fields
- Participate in program development, curriculum updates, and institutional effectiveness initiatives
- Attend and actively engage in department meetings, advisory boards, and college-wide functions
- Serve on institutional committees and contribute to strategic planning efforts
- Support college initiatives related to student success, workforce development, and innovation
- Flexibility to teach day, evening, hybrid, or online courses across campuses as needed
