Horry-Georgetown Technical College (HGTC) is a two -year community/technical college that offers more than 75 associate degree, diploma, and certificate programs for students who are either seeking quick entry into the workforce or desiring to transfer to a senior institution to pursue a bachelor’s degree. HGTC offers three convenient campus locations in South Carolina, including Myrtle Beach, Conway and Georgetown.
Horry-Georgetown Technical College seeks a full-time Electrical Line Worker instructor. The successful candidate will be required to teach ELW courses at any Horry-Georgetown Technical College campus location. The successful candidate will be accountable to the department chair for the fulfillment of his or her function, responsibilities, authority and relationships, and for their proper interpretation.
The Associate Professor of Electrical Line Worker Technology provides high-quality instruction and leadership within the program, preparing students for employment in the electric utility and power distribution industry. The successful candidate will bring both industry experience and a passion for teaching to a dynamic classroom and outdoor training environment.
This is an exciting opportunity to train and mentor the next generation of line workers—individuals who will keep our communities powered and our infrastructure strong. This individual will be responsible for the following duties (this list is not intended to be exhaustive).
- Teach courses in electrical line work, including power distribution, electrical theory, pole climbing, transformer installation, and safety procedures.
- Demonstrate proper use of line worker tools, equipment, and climbing techniques in a safe and professional manner.
- Develop, update, and maintain curriculum materials aligned with industry standards and safety regulations.
- Provide hands-on instruction in both classroom and outdoor lab settings.
- Promote safety as the highest priority in all program activities.
- Advise and mentor students, fostering professionalism, teamwork, and job readiness.
- Collaborate with colleagues, advisory committees, and utility partners to enhance program quality and graduate employability.
- Participate in departmental meetings, assessment activities, and college service initiatives.
