Job Description:

Horry-Georgetown Technical College (HGTC) is a two-year community/technical college that offers more than 75 associate degrees, diplomas, and certificate programs for students who are either seeking quick entry into the workforce or desiring to transfer to a senior institution to pursue a bachelor’s degree. HGTC offers three convenient campus locations in South Carolina: Myrtle Beach, Conway, and Georgetown.

Horry-Georgetown Technical College seeks a full-time Physical Therapist Assistant instructor.  The successful candidate will be required to teach physical therapy courses at any Horry-Georgetown Technical College campus location, including online.   This individual will report to the Department Chair for Occupational Therapy Assistant, Physical Therapist Assistant, Surgical Technology & Medical Laboratory Technology Programs. The Associate Professor will be responsible for the following duties including but not limited to:

  • Preparing lesson plans for lecture classroom instruction
  • Preparing and delivering appropriate instruction for the laboratory classroom to include demonstrations
  • Utilizing simulation technology in the lab setting to educate and reinforce psychomotor skills and critical thinking
  • Developing and delivering instruction for online and /or hybrid courses.
  • Developing course syllabi, objectives, and learning outcomes
  • Working collaboratively with other Nursing and Health Sciences faculty to improve curriculum within courses
  • Evaluating and assessing students’ progress in meeting course and program learning outcomes
  • Developing and implementing plans to improve students’ success rates on major assessments
  • Preparing and maintaining all required documentation and administrative reports
  • Ensuring safety and security requirements are met in the laboratory and classroom environment
  • Providing academic advisement to students
  • Meeting with students, staff members, and other educators to discuss students’ instructional programs and other issues impacting the progress of students
  • Participating in college and community service
  • Active engagement with students to prepare students for success on the National Physical Therapy Examination

Additionally, this is the CAPTE requirement for the Program Director:

The program director is a physical therapist or physical therapist assistant who demonstrates an understanding of education and contemporary clinical practice appropriate for leadership in physical therapist assistant education.

These qualifications include all of the following:

● Holds an active, unencumbered PT license or PTA license/certification in any United States jurisdiction and is in compliance with the practice act in the jurisdiction where the program is located.

● A minimum of a master’s degree.

● A minimum of five years (or equivalent), full-time,* post-licensure experience that includes a minimum of three years (or equivalent) of full-time clinical experience within any United States jurisdiction.

● Experience in classroom, lab, or clinical teaching experience.

● Experience in administration, management, and leadership. Experiences derived from the clinic are acceptable.

● Professional development or education in all of the following: educational theory and methodology, instructional design, student evaluation, and outcome assessment.

Minimum Requirements:

A minimum of a master’s degree; holds a current license/certification to practice as a PT or PTA in any United States jurisdiction; minimum of five years (or equivalent), full-time, post licensure experience that includes a minimum of three years (or equivalent) of full-time clinical experience; didactic and clinical teaching experience; experience in educational theory and methodology, instructional design, student evaluation and outcome assessment, including the equivalent of nine credits of coursework in educational foundations.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in administration/management.
